Soundmush is a work by Hannah Kingma and Tanja Isbarn, created through their first collaboration and specially developed for Wondergronds 2.0.
A precisely measured square of finely trimmed, closely kept grass forms a striking contrast with the wild-growing surroundings: a diverse mix of grasses, heathland flora, and the nearby arboretum.
At its center lies a hole. Here, less is more. The artists add as little as possible, directing attention to what lies beyond our immediate view: the world beneath the ground. There, a complex network of life, exchange, and movement unfolds, largely hidden from the human eye.
Soundmush invites visitors to pause, listen, and let their senses do the work. Phenomena that normally remain concealed are made audible through sonification. In this way, a new experience of the landscape emerges—one that reveals more than is visible at first glance.
